Energizing the Region

Safe, Reliable and Affordable Power for Generations to Come

The Kammer–Juniata Transmission Project will support a modern, flexible power grid that serves communities across West Virginia and Pennsylvania. It would provide access to reliable and affordable energy while boosting local economies.

Kammer–Juniata Transmission Project

The Kammer–Juniata Transmission Project is a proposed approximately 220‑mile, 765‑kilovolt (kV) transmission line that would connect the Kammer substation in Marshall County, West Virginia (near Moundsville and the hamlet of Cresap) to the Juniata substation in Centre Township, Perry County, Pennsylvania, with two new substations constructed along the route to help deliver power to homes and businesses in the area.

The Kammer–Juniata Transmission Project will support a modern, flexible power grid that can better withstand extreme weather, support new manufacturing and growing industries, and provide residents and businesses located in West Virgina and Pennsylvania with reliable, affordable electricity. By strengthening connections across the grid, the project will connect to more energy resources and reduce costly transmission bottlenecks.

This project is being developed in close consultation with landowners, state and local government representatives in West Virginia and Pennsylvania, community leaders and other stakeholder groups. Subject to receiving necessary regulatory approvals and permits in each state, Kammer-Juniata is expected to be in service in 2031.

Reliable Affordable Power for the Communities We Serve

The proposed Kammer-Juniata transmission line would serve communities right here in West Virginia and Pennsylvania. It would strengthen and modernize an energy system that is under increasing strain as new sources of energy are connected to the grid and to meet growing electricity demand from new industries, more manufacturing and the electrification of transportation and residential heating. Kammer-Juniata would lower the risk of power outages and enhance reliability for homes, farms, hospitals, schools and businesses — keeping the lights on during extreme weather events and periods of high demand.

Careful Planning with Environmental Consideration

The Kammer-Juniata team is committed to meeting regional energy needs while minimizing impacts on the local environment through careful planning, design and construction practices.

More Power, More Efficiently

A 765 kV transmission line can carry significantly more electricity more efficiently than 500 kV power lines while using less land. One 765 kV transmission line can carry as much power as three 500 kV lines, minimizing the land needed by as much as 55%. Its bidirectional capability provides the flexibility to direct power where it’s needed, serving millions of homes and businesses across the region.

Economic Growth and Opportunity

The project would help support large-scale energy investment and long-term economic development by strengthening the region’s electric infrastructure and improving access to diverse and lower-cost generation resources. Strong transmission networks support job growth, economic competitiveness and reliable electric service for homes, schools, healthcare facilities, emergency responders, local businesses and growing industries. The project would also create construction jobs and generate tax revenue for local communities.
